Default Finance Minister P. Mukherjee purchased 2010 budget briefcase at 10% discount

Finance Minister P. Mukherjee purchased 2010 budget briefcase at 10% discount
Associated Press of Desichatter

February 26th, 2010, New Delhi: Honorable Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee bought an all-leather brown briefcase to hold the 2010 budget presentation papers at a 10% discount at at a Samsonite store at the mall. The bag had a grooved rectagular design and a sturdy carry handle. Inside, it had multiple expandable sleeves and a fan file holder. It had a special organizer section to hold a pocket phone or ipod or business cards.

"The retail price for this briefcase is Rs 20,000 but I bought it for Rs 17,999 pre-tax. When I was a Home Minister, I bought several briefcases from them to hold policy documents pertaining to National Security and othe Anti-Terror stuff. They gave me this coupon for 10% towards purchase of any briefcase which was going to expire by Feb 28th. At first, I was going to use it for personal purposes, but then I decided to use it to hold the budget papers. It is a symbolic gesture on how hard I work to save money," said the finance minister, proudly displaying the bag.

When asked about the budget itself, he said, "we increased overall spending, deficits, borrowings, welfare schemes......but we saved a bunch on this briefcase!"
